New Board Members at Metropolitan Insurance

February 9 - Metropolitan Insurance Company, one of South Africa's leading multi insurance groups, announced the appointment of several new members to its board.

The decisions were made at a January 26 meeting.

The new appointments are as follows:

• JJ Njecke - Group chairman of Metropolitan. Njeke is a chartered accountant and former audit partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Njecke serves as Managing Director for Kasigo Media. Njecke first joined the board at Metropolitan Insurance when it entered into a strategic partnership with KTI in 2004. Since Prof. Wiseman Nkuhlu resigned as group chairman nearly a year ago, Njecke has been serving in his place.

• Mary Vilakazi - Joins Metropolitan Insurance's board in a non-directorship capacity. A chartered account, Vilakazi is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, and serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the Mineral Services Group. Vilakazi's other roles include a member of the South African Minister of Finance's Long Term Insurance Advisory Committee.

• Joyce Matlala - Serves as Group Financial Director at KTI, and appointed non executive director at Metropolitan Insurance. Matlala replaces Andile Sanguqu who left the board last year after resigning from KTI. Matlala is a chartered accountant.

There are now three female chartered accountants as Metropolitan board members - Mary Vilakazi, Joyce Matlala and Fatima Jakoet.
